Main Character (MC)

Spoilers Ahead! This article may contain unmarked story spoilers.
The Main Character (also known as 特待生 Tokutai-sei (lit. Honor Student)) is the player character of Tokyo Debunker who is tasked the role of inspector for the ghouls of Darkwick Academy while being classified as "the honor student".
A young woman who gets attacked and cursed by an anomaly while going home one night, she becomes a student at Darkwick Academy and inspector to the ghouls' missions in order to find a way to break her curse before time runs out.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
The MC has a fair complexion and short, brown hair reaching the middle of her neck. She also has pink eyes that are hidden by her bangs for the majority of the time.
Due to the curse of the Kyklos, she has a purple tattoo of a spider lily below her nape, which has only grown larger since.
Uniform[edit | edit source]
The MC wears the general Darkwick female uniform: a black jacket, a cream-colored cardigan, a white shirt, a black tie with gold trim, and a gray skirt. Unlike the other students, the MC wears long socks.
Casual[edit | edit source]
In Prologue: The Academy Of Ghouls, she is seen wearing a black cap, a white T-shirt, coupled with black pants, and a pair of sneakers. She is also wearing a fanny pack.
Personality[edit | edit source]
The MC immediately presents herself as a shy and insecure presence. At the beginning, she didn't want to be involved in anything that involved anomalies, preferring to escape rather than face reality. Very often she is the victim of mistreatment by other characters.
For the first few episodes, she herself says she is useless and that she wants to be more helpful to others but her insecure personality often prevents her from doing so. But, despite everything, the MC is also a very hardworking and diligent person, very caring, and has the desire to be more useful to others and to help the ghouls. Since she can't help with fighting during missions, she tries to help out in other ways, such as making case reports for missions.
The MC can be very impulsive when someone's safety is at stake. This aspect can be seen in Episode 1: The Man Who Grants Wishes, when she rushes to help Riku who is attacked by an anomaly, or in Episode 6: The Little Fugitive, when she rushes to save a girl who is about to be devoured by the Barometz. In Episode 7: The Reanimated Dead, she can be seen getting angry at the students of the Mortkranken House for not wanting to help her and Yuri Isami transport a capsule to help Jiro Kirisaki. In Episode 11: Fatal Prison, she almost blew her cover when she saw Alan Mido injured.
The MC seems to also have a positive influence on the ghouls. This is shown when she went missing during a mission with the Jabberwock House, with Professor Hyde revealing that the Frostheim ghouls who lent her the boat and one or two of the Vagastrom ghouls were beside themselves, wanting to join the search and recovery team. It took him a lot of convincing for them to back down. While the MC could scarcely believe it, Professor Hyde said it's a miracle that she can get along with the ghouls, with how unruly they are all, mentioning that it might have something to do with the Sage's Ring choosing her.
In Episode 10: Tea With A Twist Of Murder, it is also shown that the MC may have great willpower, as seen when she seems to resist Edward Hart's purple mist. While she seemed to be subdued by it, she wondered if it was right to give up her humanity to get rid of the curse. She later recovers and Edward comments that humans are very mysterious creatures.
Because of her unfortunate coincidence of getting cursed, the MC is empathetic to those who are in similar situations like hers. Oftentimes when there was hope to break her curse, it usually fails due to circumstances. This undoubtedly disappoints the MC, but she doesn't let it get to her for long as she is determined to find a way to break her curse.
She admitted that whenever she was close to giving up, there was always someone there to support her. But when she's alone, it's suggested that she feels helpless.
Even though there were times when there was a way for her curse to be broken or to be prolonged, such as Edward suggesting she becomes a vampire or Taiga Hoshibami offering to stay with her in the fabricated world, she ultimately refuses. As tempted though she may be, she doesn't want to sit back and wait for a solution without trying.
Background[edit | edit source]
The MC is a civilian that rode a train on her way home after attending a concert and got caught in a middle of an anomalous ghoul mission that led her getting cursed. She was then taken to the Darkwick Academy by Haku Kusanagi.
Currently, she is an honor student at the academy, also serving as an inspector to the ghouls and their missions and working to break her curse in one year.
The anomaly that cursed her is called Kyklos, a type of anomaly that reproduces by cursing humans. It is revealed to her by Edward that her curse is not about killing her in a year; instead, she will transform into another copy of Kyklos, the flower anomaly that cursed her. Edward guessed that Darkwick will likely kill her once she transformed or that she would be locked up in a cell just like Lyca Colt if Darkwick knew the truth.

Special Artifact[edit | edit source]
- Sage's Ring — Through the Sage's Ring's power, the MC can enhance a ghoul's stigma by touching them, typically by holding hands. It's also shown that it can be enhanced even without skin-on-skin contact.
Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]
- Fox Robe — She uses it in Episode 2: Live From The Other Side to disguise herself as a cop, Episode 5: The Cursed Temple as a shrine maiden, and in Episode 9: Spooks' Paradise to give herself an outfit to get into the graveyard.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The MC lives in the old dormitory of the now-defunct Clementia House.
- In Episode 5: The Cursed Temple, the MC recalls to herself how she used to play a children's game called Hana Ichi Monme, the same nursery rhyme the cursed doll anomalies were singing.
- The only times the MC's eyes are shown are for a brief moment in the opening cutscene and in Episode 5, Chapter 15.
- In one of Lyca's default voicelines, it is revealed that, at times, the MC smells "sweeter than usual". In his Affinity 5 voiceline, he says that her scent "makes his stomach feel weird".
- In one of his voicelines in the Spring, he compares this smell to one of the flowers.
- In the official teaser trailer for the game, the MC's in-story name is set to "Luna".
- Towa Otonashi's nickname for the MC, "dandelion", is thought to symbolize strength, hope, and confidence.
- Additionally, Zenji Kotodama's nickname for the MC, "my little sheep", may be a subtle reference to the main character of the romance mobile game Obey Me!, wherein the latter is often portrayed as a sheep.
- The MC is one of the only people (alongside Towa) who can see the tree by the hillside Towa frequents. Whether or not this is due to the effects of the Sage's Ring, or something akin to a unique quirk is not disclosed.
- Some of the ghouls seem to have a habit of making the MC their personal pillow, as Jin Kamurai sleeps on her lap, Leo Kurosagi asks to sleep on her, and Taiga asking her to cuddle up to him to keep him warm.
